Where the team fits in

The BI Developer role sits within the Finance and Business Services Group, headed up by the Chief Financial Officer. The Finance and Business Services team, or FaBs as we like to call them, is the engine room of REA Group. The team is comprised of Finance, Risk, Procurement, Pricing, Contracts, Customer Collections, Payments, Facilities Management and our Customer and Business Systems IT development teams. This cross-functional group of individuals who are the best in their fields, provide strategic commercial input and guidance around decisions across all levels of the business, while continually improving the ‘behind the scenes’ of REA to support our people, drive efficiencies and maximise customer satisfaction. The FaBs group plays an integral role within our Residential, Commercial, Developer, Media & Property Related Services and Consumer & Brand teams, as well as providing support to all other functional areas of the business around the globe. This role sits within the Customer Analytics & Insights Team within this function.

What the role is all about

As a BI Developer in the Customer Analytics & Insights team you will play a critical role in driving and developing the analytics and reporting capability of the business through data enablement. This role is responsible for inputting to the data strategy, development and maintenance of the team’s data marts, BI reporting systems and services and will support a consistent data development and reporting approach across the Lines of Business and will act as the link between data services, delivery and commercial.

You will help stakeholders and teams understand the end-to-end flow of data through the dozens of systems & datasets that intersect with the Customer Analytics datasets, and how these systems interact from both a logical and technology standpoint. You will be designing the structure of many of our datasets, including fields, field names, structure, data types, link between other datasets, etc.

This role will require excellent communication and collaborative involvement through all stages of data development – from concept and requirements through inception, specification, development, testing, release and retirement.

  • Demonstrated experience in design and development of data, using data modelling techniques;

  • Experience in Extract, Transform and Load (ETL) and data pipeline development.

  • Proactively identify and understand data requirements/needs of business.

  • Design, Develop and Maintain data assets,  both infrastructure and capability for BI reporting.  Support the LOB by creating and driving the adoption/usage of self-service data sources.

  • Support the development of a LOB data strategy,  and data warehouse migration plans. Consult with XLOB/group to ensure sustainability/alignment of data strategy

  • Enabling retirement of our legacy data warehouse through migration of datasets to BigQuery.

  • Drive data and reporting integrity across the LOB by ensuring data standardisation and consistency across all platforms.

  • Develop and execute testing plans to ensure the integrity and quality of solutions developed

  • Maintain documentation of all BI systems, data solutions and processes using techniques such as data flow diagrams, entity relationship diagrams, data schemas, etc.

  • Support / develop sandbox environments for the analytics team.

  • Support the technical capability (Tableau, SQL, data principals) across the LOB and analytics team

  • Coaching and leading the other BI Devs to ensure a consistent and sustainable data approach for the team

Who we’re looking for

  • Expertise in data analysis and data design

  • Intermediate to advanced SQL skills

  • Strong knowledge of database concepts

  • Preferred experience using GIT, YAML, Airflow and BigQuery

  • A passion for data and how it can be used to solve real problems, as well as pedantic attention to detail

  • Strong analytical skills, including ability to interpret complex business needs and translate into requirements and data specifications for technical solutions

  • A love of documentation to go with excellent communication skills – both written and verbal

  • Familiarity with programming and system design

  • Ability to collaborate and build productive relationships with stakeholders across the organisation

  • Ability to manage the competing demands of multiple projects in a timely manner – #gsd

  • Ability to work productively and autonomously in a fast paced environment

  • 5 years of experience working with data in analytics and/or engineering environments

  • Proven track record in developing detailed data specifications, design & development

  • Proven track record in relevant projects, preferably in both waterfall and agile environments

  • Experience not only in BI Development but also Analytics & Reporting

  • Experience working with and developing data pipelines
