REA is evolving how it leverages data and technology to deliver benefits for customers. After the acquisition of PropTrack in May 2018, and following large growth in recent years, we are now looking for an experienced Senior Technical Lead to lead the build of a property data universe.

PropTrack provides property data and technical platform solutions to customers in the financial and government sectors. The Engineering Team within PropTrack works together to deliver solutions to our internal and external customers. It is the core delivery centre for developing solutions to meet customer priorities and align with PropTrack's technology strategy.

What the role is all about

As the Senior Technical Lead (Data Engineering), you will be responsible for the architecture, design, build and run of the PropTrack property data universe and related systems. In collaboration with other technical leaders across the business you will lead the engineering for the property data portfolio. You will combine your extensive data management experience with your understanding of the business to guide your teams through all aspects of delivering a world-class data platform. While the focus of this role is on data architecture and leadership, you will remain hands on and work with the engineering squads to develop solutions using agile software development practices as required. You will champion our technical practices to ensure a high-quality outcome for our business. You will share responsibility for the provisioning, deployment and operational support of the software the engineering team build.

You will join the PropTrack engineering leadership team and will be jointly accountable for the health, happiness and performance of the squads. You will contribute positively to the culture of the team, build engagement and morale, be involved in recruiting, set structure and processes and generally help build and maintain a high performing team(s). You will also use your skills and experience to mentor more junior team members.

The Senior Technical Lead supports the PropTrack group in the following ways:

Solution Architecture and Technology

  • Contributing to the overall technical vision & direction for PropTrack in collaboration with other senior technical leaders
  • Be the primary decision maker on technical decisions relating to the overall data ecosystem, API and service design, patterns and integrations. Be the expert at taking account of risk, impact and business factors such as cost, time and skills in the implementation of a given approach
  • Embedding REA technology practices into the team and ensure our technology decisioning is aligned with our overall goals
  • Provide detailed specifications for proposed solutions
  • Involvement in due diligence processes for new acquisitions and partnerships

Custodianship, Quality and Platform Health

  • Be the advocate for building a strong culture around custodianships of our software solutions and work with your Product, Commercial and Delivery peers to ensure our data platforms are operating optimally taking cost, time, prioritisation and people constraints into consideration
  • Work with your team to develop our quality and testing practices

Internal and External Stakeholders

  • Build strong working relationships and be a trusted partner of the PropTrack Product and Commercial teams
  • Work closely with sales and clients to scope opportunities and propose best solutions which addresses their business needs
  • Manage technical relationships and engagements with existing partners and third parties
  • Have strong awareness of the risk, compliance and security landscape of a lending business and engage with these stakeholders to ensure we are meeting all requirements

Delivery and Leadership

  • Working with Lead Developers to provide technical direction to your team(s)
  • Provide people leadership, coaching and mentoring
  • Be on the constant look out for inefficiencies in our processes, technologies and ways of working, lead the team through addressing these opportunities
  • Work with Delivery Leads to remove blockers
  • Contribute to the REA knowledge base through blog posts, brown-bag sessions and coaching less experience members of the team

Who we’re looking for

  • An experienced data engineering leader with a passion for data - you will ideally have 7+ years leading data engineering teams
  • Demonstrated experience building and running enterprise-scale data platforms that are critically important and strategic to the business
  • Demonstrated experience with data warehousing concepts and design patterns such as data lakehouse, data vault, dimensional modelling, medallion architectures, etc.
  • Demonstrated experience with leading data engineering toolsets such as BigQuery, Redshift, Snowflake, Glue, DBT, Airflow, Flink, Kafka, Collibra, etc.
  • Demonstrated experience working with large and complex datasets
  • Demonstrated experience working with cloud platforms such as AWS and GCP
  • Experience with event streaming architectures and messaging patterns
  • Experience with build pipelines, continuous integration and delivery
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with business stakeholders
  • Ability to lead multiple engineering teams in a collaborative agile team environment
