Where the team fits in

This Lead Developer role will spearhead an industry leading piece of work for REA. You’ll be part of our Personalisation and Privacy tribe which sits within our Consumer Product and Experience business. The tribe’s purpose is to ensure that we are respectful, and to offer our consumers choice and control over their data.  Your team will be responsible for levelling up our privacy experience, working with product teams across the business, to integrate into a new consent management platform, to meet the needs and expectations of our consumers in how we handle their most personal information. In this position, you’ll be given the opportunity to be part of launching and enhancing industry leading consent management software. 

What the role is all about

  • Providing technical team leadership for a team of highly capable engineers 

  • Designing, coding, testing, deploying and maintaining software products using a variety of technologies and platforms 

  • Supporting production systems 

  • Leading the implementation of major products 

  • Providing technical mentoring and guidance to less experienced members of the team 

  • Helping define and manage roadmaps (with the DL and PM) 

  • Co-ordinating and planning the technical activities required to deliver team outcomes 

  • Supporting discovery activities (with designers, PMs, UX research) 

  • Triaging and prioritising custodianship work and developing your team’s systems health improvement plan (SHIP) 

  • Ensuring technical practices are adhered to 

  • Reviewing and giving feedback on PRs and engineering docs  

Who we’re looking for

  • You will likely have 8+ years of experience working in software development  

  • Tertiary qualification in Computer Science or similar highly desirable 

  • A polyglot software engineer, able to be productive in Typescript, React, and Scala desirable

  • Excellent knowledge of AWS products and services

  • Desirable but not required to have some exposure to Kafka and data streaming platforms

  • Work productively in a fast paced and agile environment 

  • Advanced skills in designing solutions that scale and perform for millions of users. 

  • Advanced skills in developing long-term system architecture strategies.  

  • Expert skills in building products using open source and cloud technologies. 

  • Expert skills in modern software development techniques such as test driven development, micro-services and continuous delivery
