  • Canva
  • Sydney, New South Wales, Australia

Job Description

Canva’s Commitment and Mission

At Canva, we celebrate diversity. We deeply believe that bringing together diversity of thoughts, perspectives and expression is key to building the best product, team and company. We look for many different skills and abilities, as well as how you can enhance Canva and our culture. So, even if you don’t think you quite meet all of the skills listed or tick all the boxes, we’d still love to hear from you!

Our mission at Canva is to empower the world to design and since launching in 2013, we have grown exponentially, amassing over 86 million monthly active users across 190 different countries and a team of over 3,000 people… and the best bit is that we’ve only achieved 1% of what we know we’re capable of.

Join us and design your future.

We’re looking for the next generation of Canvanauts! Be part of Canva’s AAGE award-winning Summer Internship Program and get the opportunity to do meaningful work and be part of the engine that powers Canva to impact millions of Canva users around the world.

About Canva’s Summer Internship Program

The Internship is a 12-week program that runs from the last week of November to the third week of February. We’ll pair you with a mentor and assign a buddy who will guide and ensure your success every step of the way, and of course, the rest of your teammates and Internship Program Coordinators will be there to support you, too. It’s a team effort! You’ll be part of a welcoming and inclusive Early Talent community of graduates and interns that take pride in Canva’s culture of being good humans and empowering each other to achieve our big goals. boba/coffee/gelato runs, movie nights, pizza/pasta making and the occasional karaoke night included.

How we Hire

Following your online application, you'll start the process by submitting a video answering a small number of questions. Lastly, you'll be invited to an interview with the Information Technology team where you'll be completing a Canva Challenge. We will provide you with feedback at every stage of the process.

About the team

The Information Technology (“IT”) Group’s vision is to maximize the impact of every Canvanaut through redefining technology and service.  We ambitiously seek to drive secure and scalable adoption of technologies that enable Canva’s scale.

Canva is a fast moving and rapidly growing business so change is frequent. Joining the IT Group will provide you with exposure to many teams both within IT and across Canva, tackle exciting new challenges and take advantage of an opportunity to join a high performing (and fun!) team. We live by our Canva values, love “making complex things simple” and do our best to support the business in “setting crazy big goals and making them happen”.

We are accepting interns for Engineering, Tech Support, Procurement and Business Systems so the projects that you work on will be varied depending on your team, but we are looking for someone who resonates with the following:

  • Building relationships, you will be supporting cross functional projects and will be the key point of contact for many stakeholders
  • Being able to think strategically (beyond just the here and now), Canva is growing and we need you to help us navigate our way through different complexities as we continue to scale.
  • Whether it’s looking at Canvanauts in a new geography or looking to launch a new team, you are able to adapt to different situations and spot opportunities to help Canva achieve our crazy big goals
  • You think and act as We, not Me. We’re all in this together. You love nothing more than to collaborate and build trusted relationships with your team, ensuring everyone is empowered to do the best work of their life, and having the best time doing it.
  • Right brain, left brain. Your head is in the clouds while your feet are on the ground. You are solutions orientated but focus on strategic excellence, flipping between big picture thinking and what needs to be done now without jeopardizing the quality of either.
  • Able to work under pressure whilst keeping a calm demeanor, you can juggle multiple tasks, people and systems of varying complexities and deadlines.
  • Comfortable with chaos. You have a passion for efficiency, process improvements, and map out a path to clarity and execution. You can work out ways to achieve the impossible and ride through change like a boss.

The team cares about your development, and has set up a set of core capabilities that we plan to introduce to you throughout your internship. If you thrive throughout your internship in supporting the business to achieve its crazy big goals, we would look to  offer a role at Canva as a Launcher (Graduate) in 2024 (depending on your year of graduation).

So who can apply?

  • Penultimate-year students based in Australia (citizen, PR, international student), or New Zealand (citizen) from any degree! Whilst having an Information Technology or Engineering background is a plus, we believe that a successful candidate for this role can come from anywhere.
  • You are able to commit to the 12-week, full-time summer program from the 28th of November 2022 to the 17th of  February 2023. We can provide some flexibility for dates that might overlap with university timelines.

Please note that unfortunately, Canva does not sponsor immigration visas for internships at this time.
