What we’re doing
This role is based in the Consumer Channels and Search Tribe, in the Consumer Experience line of business headed up by Val Brown. The Channels & Search tribe is the architectural heart of REA Group, responsible for the flagship realestate.com.au mobile applications & website. Our products and experiences are used by over 10 million people a month – right in the middle of the action, this is a high scale, high impact, and fast-paced environment.
Home to a world-class group of Product, Design and Technology specialists, the team creates immersive, intuitive, and personalised experiences, providing consumers with knowledge and confidence to make great property decisions. This team is all about connecting people with property & being a part of every property conversation, by designing market-leading digital tools, content, and features. The people behind our little red house are very passionate about what they do – inside and outside of REA. As a Senior Developer, you will play a key role in the continual advancement of our agile engineering practices within this team. Who we’re looking for
We are looking for a Senior Developer who is passionate about Android and mobile development in general. You will be working collaboratively with our product and technical team members to help deliver and support REA’s main mobile applications. The Senior Mobile Developer supports the team in the following ways:
Help design, implement, and maintain our native mobile products.
Contribute to a team of experienced native mobile application developers
Inform delivery planning and technical design by providing a balanced view of options, effort, and quality considerations
Keep abreast of the latest technology advancements to inform product and technical design
Proactively contribute to the continuous improvement of products, technology, process, and team development
Actively develop skills and experience through continuous learning and evaluation
Skills and experience
Someone with a few runs on the board in the Mobile space
3+ years of experience working in Android development
Demonstrated experience working in one or more of our programming languages – Java for Android or Kotlin.
Sound skills in user interface development including motion/animation-based UI’s.
Developed skills in modern software development techniques such as object orientation, test-driven development, micro-services, and continuous delivery.
Knowledge of software design patterns and best practices for software development
Skills in designing native mobile solutions that scale and perform for millions of users
An understanding of common testing practices
Experience with iOS development will be looked upon favourably
Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative environment
Looks at tricky situations through a solutions-focused lens
Work productively in a fast-paced and agile environment
