About Our Team As Canva continues on this exciting period of growth and traverses the ever increasing complexity of the international tax landscape, there is now a need to grow the Tax function to include a Senior Accountant with Indirect Tax expertise. 
Our mission is to modernise a traditional tax cost centre into “Tax-as-a-Service”, to protect and serve the business and its stakeholders (our crazy big goal!). We want to do this within a fun and engaging environment that promotes collaboration, forward thinking and continuous improvement, all whilst making tax as painless as possible. As such we are looking for a Tax Simplifier with broad experience in Indirect Tax and (ideally) Tax Technology to join our Tax Family.

The work you'll do

  • Deliver all global indirect tax compliance affairs for the Canva Group, including VAT, GST, Sales and Use Tax and Digital Services Tax
  • Operate as a valued business advisor to key business segments (e.g. Billings & Payments Team, Revenue Accounting Team), resolving complex indirect tax issues for the Canva Group
  • Market research, proactively monitor changes across the indirect tax landscape to ensure that appropriate planning, compliance and reporting actions are undertaken
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to attend to all other month-end / quarter-end / year-end indirect tax reporting obligations as required
  • Be the ambassador for process improvement across the indirect tax function, to facilitate the successful completion and timely lodgement VAT returns in an audit ready way
  • Champion the use of technology within the tax function that can scale and grow with Canva and reduce the amount of administrative work (let’s be strategic!)
  • Dive into complex VAT /GST technical matters and find solutions for critical business needs, including drafting technical advice for the Tax Leadership team and other key stakeholders 

Experience you'll have

  • An expert in your craft, with 4-6 years Indirect Tax experience and the ability to problem solve and deliver accurate and timely compliance tasks
  • Strong writing skills and business acumen with problem-solving creativity and commercial judgement
  • Comfortable with chaos, adept at bringing clarity to complex tasks, with the ability to work under pressure and within set deadlines
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to think strategically, self motivated with a desire to learn
