Where the team fits in 

The Senior Product Manager sits in the Developer Acceleration squad of the SPACE (Systems, Platform, Architecture, Cloud Engineering) Tribe within the Technology & Data Group. SPACE’s mission is to accelerate the delivery of value to REA’s internal customers. 

We are a platform engineering team that delivers platforms-as-products to REA’s tech community that enables them to work and ship faster. 

The Developer Acceleration Squad is responsible for several flagship products that accelerate REA’s product teams. Some of these products are: 

  • Realm, REA’s developer portal (powered by Spotify’s Backstage) 

  • Rea-cli – REA's command-line-interface tool for REA’s developers 

  • GreenGreenGreen – Our systems health rating tool 
     

These platform-as-products are relied on by nearly 100 product teams at REA, are used daily by roles from Developers all the way through to Executive Managers and play a critical part in REA’s competitive advantage and strong employee value proposition for world-class product development practices. 

What the role is all about 

  • Clearly articulating the REA, SPACE tribe, and portfolio strategies 

  • Setting and owning the strategy for Developer Acceleration’s portfolio of products 

  • Maintain a roadmap which balances current operational constraints, targeted delivery of value and long-term strategic goals 

  • Shape the Developer Acceleration team’s product portfolio to accelerate REA’s product teams while also providing an excellent developer experience 

  • Balance long-term needs of scale/re-use with near-term market responsiveness considerations 

  • Lead the team in development of new products and features e2e including discovery, opportunity assessment, ideation, development, delivery, launch, and support 

  • Build close partnerships with our key internal stakeholder groups, understand their businesses, their customers’ needs, their environmental constraints, their tactical and strategic objectives 

  • Work closely with technology and product leads across the business, developing an enterprise-wide perspective to support REA with a platform approach 

  • Closely track and provide insights into drivers of product performance using data and key metrics 

  • Help drive technology design choices while clearly articulating the decision-making criteria to technical and non-technical stakeholders 

 

Who we’re looking for 

  • Someone with a few runs on the board – extensive experience in Product Management / Product Development or equivalent 

  • Hands-on experience working within a platform engineering or on technical team will be highly regarded. This might look like: 

  • Working with APIs 

  • Understanding the DevOps lifecycle 

  • Knowledge of key developer tools such as Github / Buildkite / Docker 

  • A passion for developer experience and productivity 

  • Strong analytical skills, including ability to interpret complex business needs and translate into product requirements for technical solutions 

  • Demonstrated ability to manage product or project roadmaps with trade-offs and dependencies  

  • Able to communicate and collaborate effectively with business and technical stakeholders 

  • Solid prioritisation and stakeholder management skills 

  • Ability to manage the competing demands of multiple projects in a timely manner 

  • Able to create clarity and generates positive energy whilst leading a cross-functional team of people from different disciplines 

  • Familiarity with product management frameworks such as JTBD
